October 2005 wrap-up:
We all know that our fair game was invented in England back around
1630 by Sir John Suckling. Seems that some of Sir John's compatriots are
getting into the ACC Internet Cribbage act in the true international
spirit of the game and the Web. Thus it is that we have our first
tournament winner from the UK: Adrian Parslow (CorbLimeeGuv5),
who moves the pegs from Salisbury, England. Adrian overcame the time
zone difference and Rick Allen (VA0198) in the Finals to
run the tally to four countries that have hosted an ACC Internet
Cribbage winner (you know who the first two are, and France is the
third). Congratulations to you Adrian!
Meanwhile,
Scott Buhrow (MrB_IA218) of Louisville, KY, tacked 72 IRPs
onto his total to retain first place in the standings. Last year's
Internet Champion
Mark Van Dyke (loosespokes1135) of Grand Haven, MI is in
second place. Surging into
third place is player-of-the-month Marilyn Gaudreau with the
picturesque nickname of DisownedHarbor3 and the picturesque
name-bearing hometown of Agawam, MA. Marilyn racked up several high
finishes on the month, including one victory, to make her presence known
on the Top Ten list.
Curiosities department:
During the Monday, October 17 Pegging Pals tournament, not one, but two
28 hands were had by ACC players in the first round. Sherri Perelli
(ACCMA242) was the first to report, followed shortly thereafter
by David D. Braach (papa349). Tournament Director Don
Ellis (+_LoneStar__) reports that both players won their
respective matches!
Later that night, Jim Crawford met Katy Schafer in a
rather thunderous Finals match. Jim's email has "lightningbolt" in it
while Katy's has "stormy".
First timers:
In addition to Adrian Parslow,
October saw four other first time winners, led off by our own Internet
Cribbage Commissioner, Bob Milk, who plays from Richmond, VA as
Moojus. Richard May (rcmay5) of
Waukegan, IL, Nancy R. Roncetti (anunziar) of Wyncote, PA
and Murray Eakin (muledeer) of Abbotsford, BC also notched
their first ACC Internet tournament victories during the month.
