ACC Internet Cribbage 2004–5 All-Internet team
announced.
July 2005 wrap-up: In addition to being Internet Champion, Van Dyke also holds the distinction of being the first player to win two ACC Internet Cribbage tournaments. John Schafer (netview85) of Battle Creek, MI, and Charles Rodgers (KALEKAI) of Honolulu, HI retained their longstanding grip on Second and Third Place respectively. Donald LeVack (_redeagle0) of Colorado Springs took Fourth Place, thanks to strong moves in April and June, finishing only one IRP behind Rodgers. Next come the 700 IRP finishers, led by Donald Olney (olney_1147) of Carievale, SA, followed by Rick LaVallee (KwizatzHaderach) of Orlando, FL, Scott Buhrow (MrB_IA218) of Louisville, KY and Tom Lewis (pegfast) of Albuquerque, NM. LaVallee is also familiar to us through his frequent role as a tournament director, a task he performs online as +_Kwiz. All four of the 700 club members were strong all year, spending most of the season in the top ten. By contrast, our Ninth and Tenth Place finishers, Cecily S. Ryan (En_chanted1) of St. John's, NL and Lois M. Fosdal (Ezmarelda) of Stoughton, WI, needed to ride a late surge to slip into the top ten in the last month. Fosdal and Ryan both just missed the cut in 2004, so their success this season must be especially sweet. These ten players, the ten highest rated at the end of the season, make up the 2004–5 All-Internet team. Van Dyke, Olney, Buhrow and Lewis are repeat honorees from our inaugural 2004 season. The ACC held 177 separate Internet tournaments during the season. 229 members participated in at least one event, with 194 earning IRPs. As a result, the top 19 finishers (or 10%) will receive invitations for the 2006 ACC Tournament of Champions, held at the Sands Regency in Reno, NV. As was the case last season, our All-Internet team proudly displays the ACC's diversity, including women and Canadians, and a geographic range from Hawaii to Newfoundland, spread over five different time zones. Curiously, the Pacific Time Zone was shut out for the second year in a row. Perhaps this is to be expected, since one of the goals of ACC Internet Cribbage is to extend the reach of sanctioned cribbage to places that see less over-the-board cribbage, and the West Coast is well served by weekend tournaments and Grass Roots clubs. This should also assuage those who worry that ACC Internet events might draw members away from our over-the-board events. Congratulations to all who participated in the first full season of sanctioned Internet play. Every player, regardless of the standings, had a role in its success, not to mention the hard-working tournament directors and officials who keep ACC Internet Cribbage going.
