August/September 2004
wrap-up:

John Schafer (netview85) of Battle Creek, MI has the hot cards as our first full season of ACC Internet Cribbage gets under way. John combined three outright victories, including a double elimination contest with two Second Place finishes to amass 312 IRPs in 21 tournaments during August and September, easily eclipsing his personal tally of 166 IRPs during the inaugural 2004 season. There's still a long way to go, but hats off to John for a great start.

Several members of the 2004 All-Internet team are also sitting in the Top Ten, including Mark Van Dyke (loosespokes1135), Scott Buhrow (MrB_IA218), our 2004 Internet Champion Mike Fetchel (mfetchCT425) and Saskatchewan's own Donald Olney (olney_1147). Rounding it out are Charles Rodgers (KALEKAI), Dennis Allen (DeadHoleDennis), Linda A. Partain (cheeky_parrot1) of Haverhill, MA, Cecily S. Ryan (En_chanted1) and Beverly Moore (SapphireGal) of Stoughton, WI.

With the new season comes an expansion of our online tournament schedule. In addition to our open-entry single elimination events on Monday and Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoon, we've added evening events on alternate Tuesdays. These Tuesday tournaments are for ACC members only, and feature our more esoteric and lengthy formats. Consult the online schedule, and come check out one of these Tuesday affairs for a taste of something different.

Double elimination:
Don Ellis hosts our double eliminations tournaments, which now take place every four weeks in our members-only Tuesday slot. By relocating them from their previous alternate-Monday slot, and restricting them to ACC members, we're able to ensure a high level of competition and rules compliance, minimize dropouts, and expand the brackets to 64-player maximums. This can make for a longer event, but one in which you can recover from a sudden run of bad cards. Matches are 4-stakes. We have a qualified host in Don Ellis (+_LoneStar__)
), whose experience as our Internet Statistician well qualifies him for managing the complex pairings in this format.

On August 2 it was Mike Poole (TBird302ford) of Westminster, CO topping his 32-player bracket to earn his second ACC Internet Cribbage victory. John R. Anderson (madison_wi) won his bracket on the same night, notching his first online tournament win since December 2003. Both players earned 30 IRPs to start the new season. September 14 saw John Schafer (netview85) of Battle Creek, MI prevail over Raymond King (raytoo) in the finals.

Click here to see a sample double elimination bracket. Double elimination tournaments take place in MSN Games' League Room (accessible from "Play with others"), not in the Tournament Rooms, which must be open to non-members. Drop by for a challenging evening of competition. Remember, you're guaranteed at least two best-of-three matches!

Cribbage Cup returns:
Cribbage Cup tournaments start with a five-game round robin. Players winning three or more games advance to 4-stake single elimination playoffs. This format was piloted during our ACC Internet Cribbage trial period, and was popular with many ACC members, but less so with "drop-in" players, who are unfamiliar with the ACC Tournament Trail (after which the Cribbage Cup is modeled) and often found the format hard to grasp. Bringing it back on members-only night is the ideal solution, and it will alternate in the Tuesday slot with double elimination tournaments. We're pleased to have Karen Peake (+Lady_Amber) back hosting these events. Like the other members-only events, Cribbage Cup tournaments are held in the League Room.

August 31 saw Lois M. Fosdal (Ezmarelda) of Stoughton, WI capture the first Cribbage Cup of the season. The ubiquitous John Schafer finished Second. Third Place was shared between Mike Fetchel (mfetchCT425) and James H. Harrison (jimH59) of Marshalltown, IA.

On September 28, Mark Van Dyke (loosespokes1135) of Grand Haven, MI came out on top, besting William MacMillan (Bristlecone_1) of Cheyenne, WY in the Finals. Michael D'Elena (RI971) of Providence, RI and Donald LeVack (_redeagle0) of Colorado Springs, CO shared Third Place.

Pegging Pals single elimination:
These events continue to be held on Thursdays and Saturdays, and with the move of double elimination tournaments to Tuesdays, are now held every Monday too.
