ACC Internet Cribbage 2004 Internet Championship and All-Internet team races enter the final stretch
June 2004 wrap-up: Nevertheless, there's plenty of competition left before our season wraps up on July 31. Up for grabs is the composition of our first All-Internet team, which will consist of the ten highest IRP finishers on the season. Also, the top 10% of rated players will be eligible for the 2005 ACC Tournament of Champions in Reno. This figures to be about 16-20 players, based on year-to-date participation levels. The player of the month has to be Mark Van Dyke (loosespokes1135) of Grand Haven, MI, who amassed 198 IRPs with three victories and a Third Place finish, propelling him into the #4 slot in the season standings. Nice going Mark. June highlights: On June 5 it was Paul Gregson (cornellbigred) of Antioch, CA scoring his second win of the season, beating Marie Harrington (ma_lobs) of Ipswich, MA in the Finals. Gregson's performance was worth 45 IRPs, while Harrington earned 30 IRPs to help keep her in the Top Ten. Gerald Oxford (+_TheOx_1) hosted this Saturday afternoon event, which closed at 64 players. June 7 saw one of our biweekly double elimination events, which are hosted on alternate Mondays by Donald E. Ellis (+_LoneStar__), who doubles as our ACC Internet Statistician. The field was divided into 32-player maximum brackets, and the winners were Mark Van Dyke, Don Eastwood, and Dan Marsh (oldan1) of Eugene, OR. Van Dyke pulled a back-to-backer, as we went on to win June 10's single elimination event, besting Rick Allen (_29xtwo) of Richmond, VA in the best-of-three Finals. The Saturday, June 12 event was won by a nonmember, with Cecily S. Ryan (En_Chanted1) of St. John's, NL finishing Second. Monday, June 14 saw a new face in the Final Four. Rick LaVallee (KwizatzHaderach) of Orlando, FL took away 63 IRPs, and his first ACC Internet victory as he prevailed over Crescent City, CA's Gerald D. Oxford (playing with his non-Plus nick jerryox) in the Finals of this single elimination event. LaVallee's nick, incidentally, is a reference to Frank Herbert's Dune. It must have been charmed as LaVallee went 14-1 for the tourney, losing only once all evening (to Oxford). The ubiquitous Mark Van Dyke finished Third along with Kalei Anne Lundberg (pakratus) of Bluemont, VA. June 17 saw Mike Poole (TBird302ford) of Westminster, CO come away with his first win of the season. Ronald Ralston (rdr1231) of Hartford, IA finished Second. On June 19 it was Jon Taylor (AZ389) of Gilbert, AZ overcoming Boston's Nicholas Cheung (nicholas179) in the Finals to grab his first win in 2004. Both these tourneys were single elimination events. June 21 took us back to double elimination. Donald LeVack (_redeagle0) of Colorado Springs, CO and Cecily S. Ryan both won their brackets, while Kalei Anne Lundberg was the highest finishing ACC member in her bracket, finishing Second. On Thursday, June 24 it was the usual suspects coming out on top again. Mark Van Dyke won his third event of the month, with Ronald Ralston enjoying another Second Place finish. Mike Fetchel took Third Place, staying well ahead of the pack in the year-to-date standings. The June 26 tournament saw the membership falter a bit, as for the first time all season, no ACC peggers made it to the Finals. The following Monday, though, the Congress had better luck, as Kelly Ann Burgar (lil_thummper) from Edmonton, AB won the June 28 single elimination event. Professor Hal Mueller (_Ha1scrib_), author of the HALSCRIB program, finished Second, while Sue Edwards (CO434) of Denver, CO make her first trip to the Semifinals, finishing Third.
