2002 Grand National Hats Off
Warmest Thanks to all who did so much to make Grand National XXI a success for the players and
for the Boys & Girls Club of North Lake Tahoe:
The Principal Angel of GN XXI
was the North Tahoe Public Utility District, owner and operator of the North Tahoe Community
Conference Center. The NTPUD Board of Directors donated the playing facility (which normally rents for
thousands of dollars a day) and the services of its capable manager (Nora Daniels) and her
staff (headed by Steve Risko) at no charge, on one easy condition
that the Grand National benefit
the Boys & Girls Club of North Lake Tahoe.
Much money was raised in advance of the event through sponsorships, shirt sales, and voluntary
donations (thank you). Additional support opportunities throughout the weekend helped raise a
substantial donation for the Boys & Girls Club capital campaign to build a permanent facility
on Tahoes North Shore where they can do an even better job of being the positive place for kids. Once
the tournament accounting is completed, the final donation total will be posted on
the GN XXI home page.
Other Major Sponsors:
Northstar-at-Tahoe
This year-round resort, a good neighbor to Lake Tahoe and perennial angel to the Boys & Girls Club,
provided the Saturday and Sunday player shuttles.
The North Lake Tahoe Resort Association
The NLTRA helped with planning and promotion, subsidized our Reno-Tahoe shuttles, and donated raffle
prizes.
Safeway, Kings Beach
Safeway, who sponsored the championship trophy boards for our first 14 Tahoe tournaments, provided
coffee and doughnuts throughout the Grand National weekend.
Sands Regency Casino/Hotel, Reno
Thank you, Barbara Woodward, for arranging the cribbage hospitality suite at the
Sands (home of ACC events since 1986) and helping in so many other ways.
The U.S. Playing Card Co. of Cincinnati, Ohio
The USPCC donated the Bicycleฎ playing cards (Americas Favorite Playing Cards) for GNs XX & XXI
and has offered to do so for all future GNs.
